A Fine Saturday Morning
When a little girl dreams of being President, that dream can finally be a reality.
It was Saturday morning and I was sleeping in on my day off. I was awoken by my wife who couldn’t contain her excitement. Half asleep and with one eye open I am trying to make out what she is saying. I few seconds pass and I wake a little more. Then I hear it, loud as a church bell across town. Biden and Harris won!!!!!
I think I’m still asleep, so I sit up and grab my phone to fact check my wife’s breaking news. Sure enough, she was correct. Biden won with 273 electoral votes and counting.
My wife was almost in tears with emotion. Now, this is a tough broad. She hardly ever cries. “Finally,” she said. I cleaned myself up and got up to watch the live coverage alongside her.
She was overcome with relief and happiness as she proclaimed, “Our boys will be safe.” “Yes, they will,” I replied.
This day is monumental for women, women of color, and minorities alike. Madam Vice President Kamala Harris just gave every little girl that much more hope for their future. Don’t get me wrong, Joe is great and I admire the work he has done throughout his career. I wasn’t worried about his contribution. Kamala, being a newcomer and making such an important leap outshined every other news that could be heard today.
In the evening as we watched the acceptance speeches of Joe and Kamala, my wife sobbed silently. She still couldn’t believe the wonderful news.
Hours after the speech commenced , I find myself still checking select credible sources. Am I dreaming? Could this be true? Refreshing the page equated to a digital pinching of myself to make sure it’s real. I tried to ensure myself that this news is not an aberration.
Alas, I sit her writing this article in complete awe of our nation. We did it! Record numbers of voters turned out on election day, for early voting and mail-in ballots. They let their voices be heard. I couldn’t be prouder of our great nation. We will bring peace and dignity back to our American identity.
